Who we are...
Urban Skaters, strives to promote fun, fitness oriented skates and increase awareness of skating as a viable alternative mode of transportation. Fitness skating and social gathering is the main focus of the group. Skaters of all levels are welcome.
The founders of the Des Moines Urban Skaters, Pete & Elaine, started street skating in Houston with a the best group skate scene aroud bar none--Skate Trash, in Houston, Texas. We have took that group skating concept and took it to Des Moines, Iowa. Much thanks and homage is paid to Rusty Riall (the original founder of UrbanSkaters - in Houston, TX) . Thank you!
Pete and Elaine are now in Wausau, Wisconsin enjoying "God's Country". Not so much skating, but a great ski hill practically in our back yard and a world class mountain biking area is just a stones throw away. Skating is not so practical here at the moment, but the city is making great strides (pun intended) and we should at least be able to get some great skating in here in the very near future.
In the meantime, by all means enjoy the site. I hope to make it more current real soon...Peace, Pete and Elaine

Full protective gear is always strongly encouraged, but, check your local laws for mandatory helment regulations and other possible municipal restrictions before skating on the open roads. Or just do it..

The "Maps" link is an AWESOME link to some great maps around Des Moines created and maintained by the Des Moines Cycle Club. While you're there, take a stroll through their site. They have a lot of good info!
